Rules for the Green Card Lottery

1. This green card lottery updates you on the rules for the green card lottery. It is the intention to tell you about the rules so that you can avoid the fraudulent practices that may be available on the Internet. The Federal Trade Commission warns immigrants who may want to enter the United States with a green card through the Green Card Lottery that there are many people on the Internet - both individuals and attorneys -- who will say that they will increase your chances to win the green card or make sure you will get the green card. These websites are fraudulent and the attorneys are unscrupulous, affording to The Federal Trade Commission's website. All applications for the green card lottery must only be submitted online; there is no other way to do it. These online applications must include a digital photo the size of a passport photo and your spouse and children under 21 years old must submit separate digital photos. Applicants can only apply once within any year. The spouse of an applicant can put in a separate application if they both qualify. If one is picked and the other is not, both can come in on the same Diversity Visa (green card).

2. There are two eligibility requirements: The person wanting to enter the country must come from one of the countries listed in the rules. Each year the rules may list different countries so you will need to check for 2010. The second requirement is for education and the individual applying must have either a diploma from an accredited high school or show completion of 12 years of elementary school (Green Card Lottery updates).

3. The training requirement requires two years of experience in work within five years past in a career occupation that requires at least two years of experience in order to perform the task. You can find out whether your job qualities by going to the Department of Labor’s O*Net OnLine database. WATCH OUT FOR SCAMS The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) warns new immigrants of several scams that are related to the Green Card Lottery. These are done by both businesses and attorneys. These people misrepresent their business by saying the following: ? They say they are working or consultants to the United States Government -- they are not. Only the U.S. State Department issues visas (green cards). ? They have a special entry form for you to use that will make your chances greater -- the green card lottery can only be applied for online. ? They have never had an application rejected that their company sent in -- the lottery is a random drawing so some applications will be rejected since only 50,000 applications are accepted and many more are sent in. Some companies send in more than one application for immigrants which automatically disqualifies their entry.
